Celebrating Older Americans Month

Family Caregiver Alliance Events

SAN FRANCISCO—Family Caregiver Alliance is pleased to honor Older Americans Month in May with a wide variety of workshops and activities designed to offer families the tools they need to care for loved ones with chronic or debilitating illnesses such as Alzheimer?s disease and stroke. FCA’s events, held throughout the Bay Area, are all free or low-cost.

Take Time to Smell the Roses

  • Where/When: Burlingame, Wednesday, May 13, 2009; 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

  • Sponsor: Family Caregiver Alliance
  • Content: A free-one day retreat designed for family caregivers. The day will include discussions about the emotional journey of caring for someone with a chronic illness, caregiver self-care, meditation and movement, journaling and capturing life stories. Presenters include author Beatrice Bailey, FCA?s Donna Schempp and Judith Pruess-Mellow.

Decisions, Directions and Reflections

  • Content: Deciding if and when to move your family member from home to a care facility can be the hardest decision a caregiver makes. Whether you are currently thinking about a move or just need to know more, this free workshop will help you to learn about options for long-term care and understand how your beliefs and feelings about moving your family member can impact your decision.

There are simple tools and tips that you can learn to make caregiving easier and to continue feeling a connection with your loved one. This half-day workshop will combine a lecture format with state-of-the-art videos and time to discuss individual situations.
