NY - Caregiver's Assistance Act (2009)

Bill would provide a refundable tax credit to taxpayers who provide care to a family member age 60 or older who lives with them. The credit amount is 20% of the first $2,400 spent by the taxpayer on behalf of a senior relative, plus $75 for any amount spent in excess of $240. The maximum credit is $555. The credit applies to taxpayers who earn less than $45,000, or $60,000 for joint filers. The bill also provides property tax exemptions for older adults whose caregiver lives with them.
