Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (2009)

Federal health reform legislation that would expand health insurance coverage to nearly every American. Related to family caregivers, the new law will provide incentives to states to increase access to home and community-based services in their Medicaid programs, provide training for family caregivers and home care workers, and expand access to care coordination and transitional care services. In addition, the new law includes the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports (CLASS) Act, which will establish a national, voluntary insurance program for purchasing long-term services and supports.
