Family Caregiving to the Older Population: Background, Federal Programs, and Issues for Congress (2008)This report was written to provide Congress with an overview of family caregiving within the context of long-term care, including the characteristics of those who receive and provide care and the economic value of caregiving. The report also describes government programs and initiatives to support caregivers, including OAA programs, CMS policies and programs, employment policies (e.g. FMLA), and tax policies (e.g. dependent care tax credit). The report includes a table that shows the number of caregivers who received assistance by service type for selected NFCSP services in FY2006, revealing that "only a relatively small percentage of family caregivers" receive NFCSP services.
