PA- Family Caregiver Support Act Update (2011)

This bill would amend several provisions within the Family Caregiver Support Act Update that was passed in 1990. Eligibility would be broadened to include family caregivers who aren't related to the care recipients and who do not live in the same home as the care recipient. For caregivers with incomes under 200% of the FPL, they may receive up to $500 a month to purchase respite services, other supportive services, and consumable supplies like incontinence pads. They may also be eligible for up to $2,000 (total) for home modifications or assistive devices. Once all eligibility requirements are met, priority in awarding assistance is for primary caregivers caring for a functionally dependent older adult and an adult 60 years of age or older with chronic dementia. (See also House Bill 224).
