Federal Respite Support for Family Caregivers
Expansion of the Lifespan Respite Care Program
HHS Assistant Secretary for Aging Kathy Greenlee announced grant awards totaling approximately $2.25 million to twelve states to implement the Lifespan Respite Care Program. Delaware, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Washington, Wisconsin, and Utah received grant awards. They join 12 other states that received grant awards in 2009 making a total of 24 states working to make respite readily available to caregivers. Respite care is an essential part of the overall support system for caregivers by providing a temporary relief from the routine activities of caregiving.
