On February 7, 2002, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released $128 million in grant money to states under the National Family Caregiver Support program. These grants will help states work towards developing community-based services and supports that family caregivers can rely on to ease the burden of caring for an elderly loved one. Services that states may choose to provide include information and assistance, counseling, support groups and training, respite services and supplemental services that complement family care.
