Family Caregiver Alliance announces new webinars & an online service to connect caregivers to innovative tools to care for loved ones at home
SAN FRANCISCO--December 17, 2014--Most long-term care in this country is performed by families, not institutions. And, as in other areas of our society, new technologies have emerged as change agents in that care.
On October 19th, CBS Sunday Morning aired a program entitled, Aging in America: Stuck in the Middle about families who are not poor enough to qualify for subsidized home care or adult day care nor rich enough to purchase those services privately. FCA client Kathy Warren, who cares for her father, is featured on the program.
FCA is alerting caregivers in Los Angeles, California, to an event hosted by one of our corporate partners, Clorox. Caregivers in the Los Angeles area are invited to join Clorox CareConcepts for a night off with other caregivers . . . cocktails, hors d'ouevres, and pampering activities will be provided, along with a private screening of the caregiving documentary "A Sacred Journey," by Los Angeles-based filmmaker, Ernesto Quintero.
Congratulations to California workers! In the early morning hours of Saturday, August 30th, California became the second state (after Connecticut) to pass a paid sick leave bill, now awaiting signature by Governor Jerry Brown. The bill requires businesses to provide up to three paid sick days per year for employees who work 30 days or more—a great first step towards helping hardworking Californians. Sick days may be used to care for an employee's own illness, or for that of a family member (child, parent, spouse, domestic partner, grandparent, grandchild, or sibling).

Please call the Members of the Budget Conference Committee – especially those who are your district representatives – and ask that they support the inclusion of this modest budget increase to bring back some of the services cut during the recession.
