Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA)

Can I Get Help to Pay for Caregiving?

The cost of that care varies based on care setting, geographic location of care and level of care required, among other things. The Genworth’s Cost of Care Survey tool can be used by you and your family to calculate the estimated cost of long term care in your city or State.

Maryland’s Attendant Care Program is a non-Medicaid program and it provides financial assistance to severely disabled adults. Services may include personal care, transportation, and in-home support such as chores and/or cleaning.

Maryland Community First Choice and Caring for Aging Loved Ones

Maryland’s Community First Choice program is an option through Medicaid that allows for certain family members to get hired and compensated as the family caregiver. Services may include assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, eating, dressing, mobility, etc.

Maryland’s Community Pathways Waiver is a Medicaid waiver that is intended to assist intellectually or developmentally disabled adults remain living at home through community based resources. This waiver is not applicable to seniors with physical ailments due to aging or adults with physical disabilities.

Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs

Provides older adult and disabled veterans, and eligible spouses with rehabilitative, residential (assisted living, skilled nursing) healthcare and services. The VA also helps veterans and their families to present claims for veterans’ benefits to the federal government and offers veterans low-cost loans to acquire farms and homes.

Can I Get Help While Living In My Home?

Government programs assists individuals with any type of disability remain independent in the community by helping to pay for in-home care. Also, assists residents of nursing homes return to the community, if they are able to do so safely, by managing the transition and providing the appropriate community based services.
