New York University Caregivers Program

The New York University Caregivers Program started in 1987 and has gone through various phases. Since its inception, the program has focused on diminishing the negative impacts and increases the positive supportive elements of family caregiving. New York University - Langone Medical Center is committed to making world-class contributions that place service to human health at the center of an academic culture devoted to excellence in research, patient care, and education.

The Caregiver Health Education Program trains professionals and informal caregivers to lead educational and support groups for families and friends of frail older persons with chronic disabilities. There are several versions of the program including a dementia specific version and a version to be delivered by teleconference.

It Takes Two

It Takes Two: A Refreshing Approach to Understanding and Coping with Dementia Behavior

This is a free, 4-week class (one day a week for 4 consecutive weeks) to help the caregiver of someone with memory loss better understand and communicate with their family member by learning more about their ability to understand and communicate. Caregivers will learn new ways to respond to troubling behavior, and feel more confident and positive about their caregiving role. Come prepared for good company, laughter, information and communication.

Alzheimer's Poetry Project (APP)

APP develops a new approach to facilitate the creation and performance of poems for participants with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

Banner Alzheimer's Institute Native American Outreach Program

The BAI Native American Outreach Program was established to increase awareness of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias among the 22 Arizona Native American tribal members and health care providers. The program's goals are to improve diagnosis and treatment and to assist caregivers with the daily challenges in caregiving. BAI NA Outreach Program is the 2009 recipient of The Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer's Disease Caregiving Legacy Award, Diverse/Multicultural Communities Category.

AFA Teens (Alzheimer's Foundation of America)

AFA Teens for Alzheimer's Awareness educates and informs teens about Alzheimer's disease. The program especially targets teen caregivers living in families affected by this disease. AFA Teens is a 2010 recipient of The Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer's Disease Caregiving Legacy Award for the Diverse & Multicultural Communities category.

Cuidando con Respeto

Cuidando con Respeto is a culturally appropriate psychoeducational Spanish language training program for Latino family caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's disease

Herramientas Para Cuidadores (Alzheimer's Association)

Herramientas para Cuidadores is a psychoeducational training series teaching coping skills to distressed Latino caregivers of someone with Alzheimer's disease in order to improve the quality of life of the caregiver and the quality of care for the person with dementia.
