About the Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in
Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiving Legacy Awards
Background
I
n 2007, the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation published an expert
panel discussion report, Strengthening Caregiving for Alzheimer’s Disease,
outlining needs and opportunities for strengthening caregiver support. It
is against this backdrop that he Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer’s
Disease Caregiver Legacy Award program was initiated. he Awards program rec-
ognizes organizations nationally that exemplify creativity, dedication, innovation
and outstanding practices for supporting Alzheimer’s disease caregivers in three
categories, as outlined on the following page. here have been 17 awards pro-
vided during the ive-year period to programs in the following 10 states: Illinois
(2), New Mexico, California (5), New York (2), Arizona, Washington, North
Carolina, Minnesota (2), Ohio and Wisconsin.
he caregiving legacy award program has raised the visibility of programs and
organizations working diligently to improve the lives of persons with Alzheimer’s
disease and their caregivers, inspired the dedicated staf of these programs to
continue to work for improved care, and allowed the Award recipients to expand
their work, attract additional resources and explore new avenues for serving their
clients. his booklet briely tells the story of each of the Legacy Award recipients
and how they are leading change in Alzheimer’s disease caregiving.
hree awards of $20,000 each are made to programs or projects based in non-
proit organizations, government agencies or universities in the continental Unit-
ed States that respond to the needs of family/informal caregivers of adults with
Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Awards are granted in three categories,
